ok so all today ive been messing around with hammer and stuff and thought im gonna make another map like silverstone but with awkward bends and hills and bridges :o, As you see this still looks pretty crap because theres no shading and details like tree and building's but ill work on them soon! If anyone has any ideas of any other additions tell me :P

It's always nice to see something different but the way you've made each section of the track different sizes doesn't really seem to work too well and kind of looks  messy.

What you should do is start of with a simple track and then work towards perfecting that and when you've gained more experience maybe move onto making more complex tracks.

1. You shouldn't have made a second thread, especially not without closing the other one.
2. Like Eclipse said, mapping requires a lot of practicing, making and throwing away maps you realize are rubbish as you improve.
Your first map will not be of considerable value and you will realize this as soon as you've finished it and started on your second map, which you will, in turn, realize completely sucks. Repeat this cycle a couple of times and you'll get it.

Anyway, keep going!
Check out the stickies in this section, they contain a lot of useful information!

    Maps - Models - Textures

Posted 19 April 2014 - 03:23

Take a look at this image.

That's all the gmr map projects I've started. Only 3 were released, as most of them were thrashed. Some are WIPs I never finished. The ones highlighted in green are maps I could have released, but didn't simply because I felt that they would just end up being yet another crappy map that would make people facepalm when chosen.

But even though they were never released, it was still good mapping experience and I learned a lot from it! besides learning from just using Hammer, this guy has some great tutorials.

Keep mapping, but know that it takes a lot of practice to make a good map people want to play

ahaha ive been watching that guy for most of this gmr map :P Learnt alot already! but i still want to carry on with this map because to me its becoming better now + im using the dev coloured textures so it has more of a retro theme and ive made some elevation changes around the map so it looks more real :)
