Thanks Domnom, It took awhile to get the values right so it didn't look weird, I'll most likely continue doing lighting around the map for today and tomorrow so I get everything right :)

Didn't you just make a sphere and then -> make hollow?

No, that's 2 displacements, one for the outer and another for the inside.

Currently looking for people to test out the map as it is and provide feedback.

It's
  • semi textured.
  • semi populated.
  • 2nd phase lighting.

I need feedback on.
  • Overall Layout.
  • Potential dead spots.
  • Lighting so far.

I have this thing where I kind of dislike the bent fence prop. It looks so meh... I think it'd look better if you had a fully fenced off section. I don't see how in a power plant a fence would have snapped and then like 5 panels completely disappeared :P

I showed a program called Twister. This awesome program basically allows you to make very complicated displacements with just the click of a button.

That's not staying there Domnom, it was purely for experimenting with :)

Although that program looked good, I could never use it as it crashed everytime, instead I opened it up and looked at how it calculated it's displacements and did it manually in Source.

What do you expect though from a program that hasn't been touched since 2009.

You could always just use a torus for the dome :P Just fill out the hole in the top by a little vertex manipulation and some brushes. But with displacements you get the best texture aligning (the main downside being that it doesn't block VIS). Anyway, it looks promising so far! If there's one thing I'd like to see more of it's some smaller rooms here and there.

Well after yesterdays testers the map went under some dramatic changes, the first was the reactor building which has been comepletly redesigned inside, the control building also had some changes on the top floor which is now filled with corridors and office partitions (not walls :P)

I'll start releasing more screen shots when everything is back in place :)
