Thanks. It's really cool that the map gets all these compliments. Keeps me motivated :P

It does indeed look really nice, make sure that it is balanced in size :D

This might get me back into TTT, once it is running

Some very nice mapping :D I like the concept too. Anyone else feeling some explosive barrels coming on in that cargo bay? ;)

Haven't really gotten anything done today apart from minor adjustments and planning a little, but I figure that I'll get to work more on it tomorrow as I won't have to go to bed early because of work (and there ain't no parteh either).

I forgive you, you're allowed to have a life :P You're already faster than most mappers :P (e.g. CYRILL - Mr halfmap.)

Most people are Mr. Halfmap.
In fact, it's a tiny group of mappers who can actually push themselves to complete a map.

I literally have no idea what I'm doing with this optimization stuff apart from func_detail :P

make it a func_areaportal

Also, put one over each window too, it'll count as a leak :P

Ah, thanks, and I just deleted all of them before making some other changes, brilliant

Might be wise to look at some tutorials for once :b

Then dont.
You dont need to.

Do not bother with areaportals, visleafs and hint brushes. All you need to do is:
-func_detail
-nodraw
-dont fucking LEAK your map

LDT is LDT.

Aye, those I am aware of, but I want to speed up compiling.

And I'm thinking it might come in handy later, when I have added more to the outdoor areas, there's really no need for those to be rendering when inside.

You dont use it, let's just put it like that.
If you want to know more about it, use google, not gonna explain here.

If you want to speed up compiling, just for testing, put vvis on fast (or on Not at all) and vrad on fast (or not at all if you can test without lighting)

LDT is LDT.

Areaportals optimise the map in-game (As opposed to during compile) by restricting what's rendered on the other side
Basically, isntead of rendering all the leaves that are visible through it, it renders only the objects that are visible

You can also set it to render nothing, which is useful if you tie it to a door and don't want everything behind the door rendering while the door is closed

Edit: And psycix, try not to discourage best practices

Yeah psycix, at least some people are helpful. Jeez... xD

I get you. On a slightly unrelated note, would vvis on fast and vrad on fast help me with my issue of crashing on compiling? I think its just because it's a big map, and my laptop fails.

Sometimes compile crashes are really just long compile times
Check where it freezes, you might need some compile optimisation (Should say running vbsp.exe, vrad.exe, or vvis.exe somewhere before the crash, whichever one's latest is the one you want to look at)
