A lot of people don't know what everything does.

The best answer to everything, can be found HERE.

Nodraw CAN be used to improve performance. (Faces with nodraw will not be rendered or "drawn".)
Invisble and clip CAN NOT.

Nodraw WILL NOT make leaks when separating the map from the void.
Invisble and clip WILL make leaks. Same as any other translucent texture.

Nodraw WILL still cast shadows.
Other invisible textures WILL NOT.

Nodraw WILL be used to cut VISleaves.
Other invisble textures WILL NOT.

I thought I'd take 5 minutes out of my time to clear some things up.
Don't make leaks in your maps kids!

Peace out?

Use playerclip to make an invisible wall that stops players, but not other things!

Use invisible to make an invisible wall that stops everything!

Use nodraw to seal leaks under displacements, or to improve performance by not drawing surfaces that you can't see anyway!

In general, you should make every brush with a nodraw texture on all faces.
Then, you may start applying textures to the faces that are supposed to be visible.

What do you do if you want a brush that can't be no clipped through?

That's why I'm not proud to be Dutch.

I have a map, and I want people to have noclip since it's a build map, but there are brushes I do not want people to be able to noclip through.

That's why I'm not proud to be Dutch.

You are right, however this is not a tool texture.
I think you'd have to make brushes func_noclipstop or whatever, and make the sandbox tool "Anti-noclip tool" apply to this.

So yeah, you'd need some Lua majigger for this.

Never researched this, I would be very interested in anti-noclip as well.

Simply use a trigger hurt to instakill every noclipper that goes where he shouldn't, or teleport him out!

If you want a brush you can't noclip trough, then you have to make a Trigger_teleport and make a destination.

I only use playerclip for things like lanterns and branches where u want a player to be able to "climb" on but dont want boxes or other objects to get stuck in, clip to seal skyboxes and make invisible level limits and nodraw on pretty much anything else

clip to seal skyboxes

I'd rather brush my teeth with a chainsaw.

I made this thread for people like YOU. :P

I've seen Nipper's maps and he does it all the time. It's to close gaps when you got a wall in front of a skybox and you want it sealed. I'd rather use clip than nodraw here.

Do you mean you use clip to make the boundary of a level so that there is a bit of geometry between the furthest the player can go and the final edge of the skybox, OR do you mean you use clip to actually seal off the void?

I mean, if there is a wall that is right in front of the skybox and I don't want people to be able to climb the wall (such as on ttt_cluedo), I'd use clip or playerclip rather than noclip because it seems like it does influece the way light breaks through :/

I think you mean nodraw, not noclip.
And yes, you are right, its the same thing I said before ^^

I think bob got confused when you said "clip to seal skyboxes"
He (and I) thought you wanted to seal leaks to the void with clip while you meant "seal off the map to block the player from leaving the playable area"

Hence.

I'd rather brush my teeth with a chainsaw.

Since chainsaws make better toothbrushes than clip textures make map sealers. :P
